Using lime in connection with wastewater treatment has many advantages. The chemical properties of lime mean that the lime precipitation process will remain stable over a greater pH range. The various lime precipitation processes, either based on pure limestone precipitation, sea water precipitation or other auxiliary coagulant, generally precipitate at a higher pH level than other precipitation chemicals.
The use of lime provides sludge with relatively high settleability that is very attractive to agriculture and provides a better working environment in the process. In addition, the risk of corrosion at the facility will be significantly reduced or eliminated.
Facilities that use lime in the cleaning process often have a good relationship with their neighbours because the lime is highly effective at reducing odour.
