NorFraKalk was founded in 2004 by the Norwegian company Franzefoss Minerals AS (50%) and the Finnish company Nordkalk Oy Ab (50%). The parties already had a close cooperation through the shared ownership of Verdalskalk AS.
NorFraKalk is a production company for its owners. NorFraKalk manufactures and sells quick lime, as well as related limestone products from its own facility at the Ørin industrial area in Verdal, including distribution from the Port of Verdal.
The main product is high-quality quick lime for the filler industry and other industrial processes in the Northern European market. In addition, we provide transport services related to the delivery of the product.
NorFraKalk is certified according to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
Our market
The kiln in Verdal is built to produce raw material for PCC manufacturing. The limestone in Tromsdalen is a unique raw material for paper pigments due to its whiteness, purity and reactivity. The kiln represents the latest technology on the market for exploiting the properties of the stone in Tromsdalen. In order to streamline the logistics, the quick lime is sent directly from the Port of Verdal to the customer.
The paper industry uses limestone-based products as filler and coating pigment. Minerals help provide the best printing properties, opacity, whiteness and gloss. Almost half of a high-quality glossy magazine may consist of minerals. The paper pigment PCC (precipitated calcium carbonate) is used for, among other things, glossy magazines, fine paper, packaging and wood paper.
