Limestone road grit is the only road grit product that has this positive environmental impact. On roads that are close to vulnerable natural areas, limestone is therefore an excellent choice as it contributes to lusher vegetation along the road.
The dry limestone draws moisture and freezes into the ice. The chemical reaction that occurs when the limestone comes in contact with snow and ice means that it will not blow away as other types of road grit can do. As the limestone does not melt, it produces a dry and clean protective base. When limestone grit is used on walkways, it can be swept away and used as a nourishment for the lawn.
